Iran‘s leadership presents an image of strength, but the historian Narges Bajoghli argues that the government increasingly depends on surveillance, intimidation and social control because it fears its own population. She says power is shifting toward institutions such as the Revolutionary Guard while many Iranians face economic hardship, internet restrictions and constant monitoring. Despite exhaustion and repression, a young, educated and connected society continues to challenge the system’s authority.
