Ukraine‘s capital, Kyiv, suffered a ballistic missile attack by Russia early Monday, with at least one building sustaining a direct hit, according to the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko.

Klitschko took to his Telegram channel to say that people could be trapped under the building’s rubble between the building’s seventh and ninth floors in Kyiv’s historic Podil district.

Local authorities said that at least three people were killed and eight more were wounded in the attacks. Five people were taken to a hospital in Kyiv, and three more were hospitalized in Bucha.

Other parts of the city also saw drone debris.

Earlier, Klitschko asked people to seek shelter due to a missile attack, and the city’s head of the military administration warned people of incoming ballistic missiles.

Kyiv is repeatedly targeted by Russia

Last Thursday, at least 30 people were killed in a series of Russian attacks on Kyiv, bringing the city to announce a day of mourning after one of the heaviest attacks on it this year.

Russia has repeatedly been attacking Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles since its full-scale invasion of its neighboring country, Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II.

US-led mediation attempts have so far failed to bring about a breakthrough, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zenelskyy expected to meet US President Donald Trump at the NATO summit in Turkey next week.
