Canada mass shooting: 2 killed at Toronto festival

Police in Toronto are responding to an active shooter at a festival in the Canadian city. Two people have been killed and several others have been wounded, police said.

An active shooting incident in the Canadian city of Toronto brought out a large police presence on Saturday night. 

Authorities said two people were pronounced dead at the scene and six people were found with gunshot wounds. It was not immediately clear if the dead were included among the six wounded.

The incident happened near St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue during the Salsa on St. Clair festival — Canada’s largest Latin street festival. 

Police said the suspect is still at large without providing any more information..

“I am devastated by the senseless violence at the Salsa on St. Clair Festival that has claimed two lives and injured others,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford wrote in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the victims, their families and everyone affected.”

Toronto is among North America’s safest major cities. Fatal shootings, particularly those involving multiple victims in public, are relatively rare in Canada.
