Firefighters are beginning to gain control of a deadly wildfire in Spain’s Almeria region, helped by weather conditions that are allowing direct attacks on the flames. Authorities say most of the victims were foreign nationals and many died after ignoring evacuation advice or abandoning their vehicles. Officials suspect a downed power line, following weeks of extreme heat. Scientists warn that human-driven climate change is making such extreme wildfires more likely and more severe.
