Brazil’s presidential race is shaping up as a test of the Bolsonaro political legacy. Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, has launched his campaign with strong backing from his father’s supporters, despite Jair Bolsonaro serving a prison sentence and being barred from running.
Analysts describe Flavio as the heir to the Bolsonaro movement, but his campaign has been overshadowed by corruption allegations, the Banco Master controversy and his role in the US-Brazil tariff dispute. Polls show him trailing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva ahead of October’s first-round vote.
