For almost his entire life, Zbigniew Szpotowicz avoided the water due to fear. He never learned to swim, and for a long time felt too embarrassed to talk about it. He’s far from alone: many adults cannot swim and similarly feel ashamed. At the age of 60, Zbigniew took a courageous decision and signed up for a beginners’ swimming course. Step by step, he’s been building confidence, overcoming his fears and experiencing his first successes. Why more and more adults are learning to swim, and how they are conquering their biggest fears.
