Scientists are warning that this year’s El Nino could be the strongest in more than a century, driving extreme weather around the world.
The climate phenomenon occurs when unusually warm Pacific Ocean waters spread eastward, disrupting global weather patterns. Forecasts suggest sea surface temperatures could reach record levels, increasing the risk of severe droughts, wildfires and flooding.
Experts say the event may intensify food insecurity and push up prices through crop failures and agricultural disruption, while offering a glimpse of a hotter future shaped by climate change.
