We’re buying more of a memory stock that’s stubbornly higher since last month’s initiation

The stock is trading about 11% above our average cost basis, but the stock never broke below.

Skip NavigationJoin ICJoin ProLivestreamMenuWe’re buying 17 shares of Micron at roughly $942 each. Following Thursday’s trade, Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust will own 42 shares of MU, increasing its weighting in the portfolio to about 1% from 0.6%. We’re nibbling on shares of Micron to take the position up to 1% of the portfolio. The stock is trading about 11% above our average cost basis, but the stock never broke below our basis from when we put on a small position last month. We’ve been wanting to put some more shares on following Jim Cramer’s trip to Boise, Idaho, where he interviewed Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra and toured the company’s under-construction semiconductor fabrication site. Mehrotra pushed back against several bear-case narratives against the memory cycle, explaining how its strategic customer agreements have reshaped the company’s business model. Additionally, we think a major step up in shareholder returns will be announced after a two-year ban on large-scale buybacks — which was put in place in order to secure CHIPS Act funding — expires in early December. Finally, bullish long-term earnings outlooks from Nvidia last week and Broadcom on Wednesday night suggest a long runway for AI chip demand. Both outlooks remain supply-constrained, providing another data point that AI-driven demand for DRAM, or dynamic random-access semiconductor memory , continues to exceed supply. (Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust is long MU, NVDA, AVGO. See here for a full list of the stocks.) As a subscriber to the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer, you will receive a trade alert before Jim makes a trade. Jim waits 45 minutes after sending a trade alert before buying or selling a stock in his charitable trust’s portfolio. If Jim has talked about a stock on CNBC TV, he waits 72 hours after issuing the trade alert before executing the trade.
