An exceptionally strong El Nino is expected to bring more extreme weather around the world in the coming months, with the UN warning of increased risks of heat waves, droughts and flooding.
The World Meteorological Organization has said Pacific Ocean temperatures are already at unusually high levels, raising the possibility of one of the strongest El Nino events on record.
While Europe is expected to be less directly affected, the agency forecasts above-average temperatures across most of the globe. It is urging governments to strengthen preparedness and early warning systems as climate risks intensify.
