Tanzania is preparing for the possibility of heavy rains associated with El Niño later this year, with authorities warning of flooding and other weather-related impacts.
The warning comes after heavy rains during the 2023 El Niño period caused devastating flooding and landslides in parts of Tanzania.
The Tanzania Meteorological Authority says flooding could affect communities in high-risk areas, while vulnerable infrastructure, including roads and bridges, could also be affected.
Residents say they are concerned about the potential impact on homes, businesses, agriculture and livelihoods.
