A pair of thieves who stole four Renoir paintings from a French museum left two in the garden as they fled, according to the local mayor.
The museum’s alarm went off at 05:48 local time (04:48 BST), with police arriving five minutes later. The thieves are still on the run.
According to French media, the two missing paintings are Portrait of Madame Colonna Romano (1910), and Jeune fille au puits (1886).
Two works of art, Portrait of Madame Pichon (1895) and Coco Lisant (1905), were abandoned as the thieves fled the scene.
