US President Donald Trump says he has reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland that will expand the American military presence in the Arctic while keeping Greenland under Danish sovereignty.
Danish and Greenlandic leaders say the deal strengthens security in the Arctic and North Atlantic and respects self-determination. The announcement follows months of tensions over Trump’s push to gain control of the strategically important island, a move that unsettled NATO allies and European partners. The agreement is expected to be signed at the UN next week.
