South Africa’s femicidecrisis is under renewed scrutiny after the bodies of nine murdered women were discovered in open areas near Johannesburg.
Protesters gathered to demand stronger police action, saying women continue to live in fear despite government promises. Activists, lawyers and civil society groups argue that police shortages, vacant detective posts and corruption are undermining efforts to combat gender-based violence.
Many are calling for swift arrests, safer streets and a clear strategy to tackle femicide.
