Mayor Pugh says it’s not uncommon to hear cannons being fired from the base.
He says cannon fire was heard again yesterday before it suddenly stopped.
News then came through that local first responders had been deployed to an “all hands on deck” situation.
He confirms the fire at the base has been contained, but fire and rescue teams remain at the scene to contain any potential flare-up.
