Concerns in Ukraine that US support would gradually fade have evolved into fears that Washington is now pursuing policies that benefit Russia. Sharp reductions in US military aid put pressure on Kyiv to negotiate, and there is criticism that President Trump has been more willing to pressure Ukraine than Russia.
Analysts link these shifts to Ukraine’s worsening air-defense shortages and rising civilian casualties, while also pointing to disputes over intelligence sharing, sanctions relief, and Russian energy exports. Although experts stop short of saying the US has fully aligned with Moscow, they warn that continued support cuts and concessions to Russia could increasingly weaken Ukraine’s position.
