U.S. Treasury yields moved higher on Tuesday morning as investors awaited further economic data and anticipated the start of the NATO Summit in Turkey.

At 4 a.m. ET, the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose over 2 basis points to 4.505%, and the 30-year Treasury bond also added 2 basis points to yield 5.014%. The 2-year Treasury note was up over 1 basis point to 4.143%.

One basis point equals 0.01%, and yields move inversely to prices.

Investors will parse through economic data on the U.S. trade deficit in May at 8:30 a.m. ET. They’re also looking ahead to the FOMC meeting minutes on Wednesday, the first to be led by the new Federal Reserve Chairman, Kevin Warsh, which will offer further insights on monetary policy. Thursday will bring the weekly initial jobless claims and existing home sales data for June.

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller also spoke on Monday and reiterated the central bank’s commitment to its 2% inflation target, while noting the pros and cons of forward guidance.

“Forward guidance can help speed up policy transmission, but if it is not flexible enough, it can hinder policy transmission. And, in some cases, it’s best not to use it at all,” Waller said.

Elsewhere, investors will monitor the start of the NATO Summit in Ankara, Turkey, where U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to arrive on Tuesday afternoon.
