Europe has experienced its hottest June on record, according to the EU’s climate monitor, Copernicus. Temperatures in Western Europe were over 3 degrees Celsius (5.5 F) warmer than average. Global sea temperatures also reached record highs.

Scientists say the extreme heat would have been virtually impossible without climate change. The heat wave contributed to weather-related deaths, school closures and transport disruptions, prompting renewed calls for stronger climate adaptation and public health measures across Europe.
