Cape Verde’s Independence Day celebrations were boosted by the return of the national football team after a historic World Cup campaign. The Blue Sharks reached the tournament for the first time and advanced from the group stage after earning a draw against former world champions Spain. Although Cape Verde was eliminated in the knockout round, the team’s performances united fans at home and helped put the island nation on the global football map.
