Monaghan: Driver arrested after police call bomb disposal unit

A woman in her 20s has been arrested after a bomb disposal unit had to attend an incident in the Republic of Ireland.

An Garda Síochána (Irish police) stopped the vehicle, which the woman was driving, on the N2 south of Carrickmacross, County Monaghan at about 15:00 local time on Wednesday.

Gardaí then requested the assistance of the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

The EOD completed an examination of the vehicle, the outcome of which is not being released for operational reasons.

An Garda Síochána is providing no further comment as it is an ongoing operation and the road has since reopened.
