More than 250,000 people have been evacuated as massive wildfires rage across Spain and France, forcing authorities into a race to protect lives and communities. Near Madrid, several blazes have merged into a single fire that officials say is out of control and beyond current firefighting capacity. In France’s Gironde region, record areas have burned as flames advance toward Bordeaux, prompting further evacuations. Despite widespread destruction to homes, farmland and nature, no human deaths have been reported.
