Illegal seahorse trade once endangered marine life in Vilankulo, Mozambique, driven by global demand for traditional Chinese medicine. Today, a community-led conservation project is reversing the damage.
Led by ParCo, former poachers now protect seahorses and earn income through eco-tourism, including guided seahorse safaris. Supported by stricter laws and environmental education, local communities benefit from sustainable livelihoods while seahorse populations recover.
The initiative highlights how conservation, tourism and community engagement can protect endangered species and support coastal communities.
