The UN is warning that El-Obeid could become Sudan’s next humanitarian catastrophe, echoing the violence seen in El-Fasher. Residents describe severe shortages of food, water and medical supplies after months of siege, while drone strikes and reports of sexual violence have deepened fears. Home to around half a million people, El-Obeid remains under intense pressure as fighting continues. With more than 14 million people displaced across Sudan and millions facing hunger, the UN says there is still time to prevent another mass atrocity, but the window is closing.
