Are the Iran and Ukraine crises morphing into a world war?

Russia’s war against Ukraine and the US-Iran conflict are becoming increasingly intertwined. From Iranian drones in Ukraine and Ukrainian support for Gulf states, the lines between the conflicts are beginning to blur.

The US has threatened to impose ‘the toughest sanctions in history’ on Iran in an effort to bring the war to an end. But so far, neither bombing nor economic pressure has made Tehran budge. And Russia seems just as dug in as ever in its war in Ukraine.  While it’s possible that the two conflicts could burn themselves out, there are no obvious off-ramps for any of the parties involved. Meanwhile, every day brings the chance of miscalculation or escalation. Can the conflicts stay contained? Or will they spiral out of control and merge?
