Aug 23 : Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha reclaimed the half marathon world record with a blistering run of 56 minutes and 51 seconds to win a World Athletics Label road race in Buenos Aires on Sunday.
The Ethiopian shaved 29 seconds off the previous mark of 57:20 set by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo in Lisbon in March, taking back a record he had lost after Kiplimo improved on his 57:30 time from Valencia in October 2024.
Kiplimo had also run 56:42 in Barcelona last year, but his performance was not eligible for the record as race conditions did not comply with World Athletics regulations.
In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Fotyen Tesfay stormed to victory in 1:03:57.
