The US and Canada are again at odds over tariffs following recent talks between trade negotiators. After Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney abruptly ended the negotiations on Friday before the deadline for a deal, US President Donald Trump imposed a 50% tariff on some Canadian exports, and Carney said he would match that “dollar for dollar” on US exports.
The BBC asked Canadians in Montreal’s Old Port what they make of the growing dispute. Many people from across the country voiced frustration at the escalating trade war, warning it risks damaging the deep economic and cultural ties between the two neighbours.
