Man charged after cannabis and suspected cocaine bust

He is one of two men arrested following an investigation that uncovered 119kg (262lb) of cannabis in Dundalk, County Louth, then a further 45kg plus cash and suspected cocaine in Newstownabbey, County Antrim.

A man in his 40s has been charged after a €1.6m (£1.4m) drugs bust following a cross-border police operation.

He is one of two men arrested following an investigation that uncovered 119kg (262lb) of cannabis in Dundalk, County Louth, after a car was stopped on Wednesday.

Follow up searches in Newtownabbey, County Antrim, turned up a further 45kg of cannabis, half a kilogram of suspected cocaine and 22 imitation firearms, along with £25,000 in cash.

The man charged is due to appear before Cavan District Court on Friday afternoon.

Police and gardaí (Irish police) have said investigations are ongoing.
