NATO‘s Exercise Northern Viking has concluded with Iceland at the center of efforts to monitor activity in the North Atlantic and Arctic.

As a founding NATO member without its own military, Iceland relies on allied support while facing growing security concerns linked to increased Russian activity and the war in Ukraine.

The exercise highlights Iceland’s strategic role in tracking submarines and military movements, while uncertainty over future US commitments and recent comments by President Donald Trump have fueled debate about security and stability in the region.
