The judge in the trial of Lindsay Clancy – the US mother accused of murdering her three children – has officially declared a mistrial. Defence lawyer Kevin Reddington had spent the morning pushing back, insisting Judge William Sullivan had the power to dismiss the one holdout juror.

The judge denied the request, and proceeded to officially declare a mistrial. The jurors have now been sent home, with no further obligations in this trial.

The next date for a status hearing is set for 29 September.
