The judge in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, the US mother accused of murdering her three children, has officially declared a mistrial in the case. That means the trial has collapsed without a verdict and court will reconvene at the end of the month to decide what happens next.

The BBC’s Ione Wells was inside the courtroom as the defense team made a last effort to appeal the decision.
