Saudi Arabia has shut down its key East-West oil pipeline after a drone attack that Riyadh says originated in Iraq, raising concerns over global energy supplies. At the same time, Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen have strengthened their control along the Red Sea coast near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a major shipping route. Analysts warn that disruptions to both the Bab al-Mandab and Strait of Hormuz could strain oil exports, drive up energy costs and increase pressure on the global economy, with potential effects on fuel, food and shipping prices.
DW speaks to Kate Dourian, energy analyst at Fellow at the Arab Gulf States Institute as well as Fawaz Gerges, Professor at the London School of Economics.
