Germany’s regional elections delivered mixed results for the country’s major parties. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the far-right AfD won the largest share of votes, but remains isolated as other parties reject coalition talks. The SPD, led by incumbent premier Manuela Schwesig, still has a realistic path to government. In Berlin, the Left Party emerged on top and could form a coalition with the Greens and SPD. Meanwhile, the CDU suffered weak results in both votes, adding pressure on Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his conservative bloc.
