Bangkok has been declared a disaster area after days of relentless rainfall triggered severe flooding across the Thai capital.
Rising waters have forced thousands of people from their homes, disrupted public transport, delayed flights and led to business closures. More than 200 shelters have been opened for affected residents.
While flooding is common during Thailand‘s monsoon season, the intensity and duration of this week’s downpours have been unusual.
