How can India bring green technology inventions to market?

India’s climate-tech entrepreneurs are developing innovative solutions to tackle air pollution and environmental challenges, but turning ideas into successful businesses remains difficult. Fewer than 3% of India’s more than 800 climate-tech startups progress beyond the early-funding stage. This report follows three ventures with different outcomes: Climate Towers, which uses the aquatic plant Azolla to filter air pollutants; Airveda, whose low-cost air-quality monitors are now supporting scientific research and community action; and Kriya Labs, which tried to transform crop residue into biodegradable products but ultimately shut down. Experts say supportive policies, market demand and long-term funding are critical for climate innovation. Though some startups struggle to survive, others demonstrate how persistence, partnerships and practical applications can create measurable climate and social impacts.
