Iran’s Revolutionary Guards target ‘terrorist groups’ in Kurdistan

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards targeted the headquarters of “terrorist groups” in Iraqi Kurdistan, state media reported Monday.

The Iranian government accuses the armed Kurdish parties, which have camps in neighbouring Iraq’s Kurdistan region, of serving Western or Israeli interests and designates them as terrorist organisations.

Since the start of the Middle East war, and despite a ceasefire announced in April, Iran has repeatedly struck these groups, although their posts and camps had largely been evacuated.

“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has targeted the headquarters of terrorist groups in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq,” Iran’s IRNA news agency posted on Telegram.

Israel will strike Iran ‘with force’ once given green light

Israeli military chief Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir vowed Sunday that the military would strike Iran “with force” upon receiving orders, after the Islamic Republic fired missiles at Israel.

“The IDF will strike the enemy with force as soon as the green light is given,” Zamir said in a statement as he conducted a situational assessment, the military said.

Yesterday’s key developments:

• Iran launched missiles at Israel for the first time since a fragile ceasefire took place in early April.

• The Israeli military vowed to press ahead with its military campaign in Lebanon and said it would step up operations against Hezbollah, after launching attacks that killed two and wounded 20 in Beirut‘s suburbs.

• Iran‘s top diplomat Abbas Araghchi discussed the latest events in the region on Sunday night with his counterparts in Britain, France, and Turkey, as well as with Qatar’s leader and Pakistani mediators, focusing on Israel‘s ceasefire violations.
