The investment firm upgraded the apparel and footwear stock to overweight from neutral. It also raised its price target on shares to $20 from $16, which is roughly 27% above its closing price on Monday. “The key debate on the stock still centers on Vans turnaround, and per our Fall Teen Survey … Vans ranking as a favorite footwear brand for all males held steady … and moved up for the upper income guy,” analyst Anna Andreeva said Tuesday in a note to clients. That, “along with [direct-to-consumer] data improving … could suggest mindshare has bottomed and should be back to growth as newness scales across Wholesale.” Piper Sandler published its new teen poll this week. With responses from roughly 9,000 teenagers, it offers insights into young shoppers’ brand preferences. Vans is the seventh most popular footwear brand among teen males, according to the survey. It maintained its position in the ranking for the first time in two years, per Piper Sandler. Among upper-income young men, Vans also moved up one spot from the year prior to rank as the ninth most popular shoe brand. The footwear store also seems to be gaining traction with consumers more broadly. Foot traffic at Vans stores is its best since February 2023, according to Piper Sandler. The investment firm’s call goes against consensus on Wall Street. Of the 25 analysts covering VF Corp., 13 have a hold rating on the stock, while 10 have a buy or strong buy on it, LSEG data shows. Two analysts rate the stock underperform.
