The suspect, identified only as Vadym Y. under German privacy rules, is accused of gathering military-related intelligence — including details on ammunition and military personnel.

Vadym Y. was detained in the eastern German state of Brandenburg, in the Oder-Spree district.

According to German media reports, investigators believe the man had ties to Russia‘s GRU military intelligence service and was especially interested in a military base Germany is building in Lithuania.

How does the arrest fit into the wider security concerns in Germany? DW correspondent Shristi Pal reports.
