A rare humanitarian ceasefire in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky has enabled aid deliveries and civilian evacuations after months of negotiations.

Ukrainian and Russian human rights officials jointly accompanied a convoy into the frontline town, where only about 2,000 residents remain from a pre-war population of 24,000.

Residents were given the option to travel either to Ukraine or Russia, while food, water and medical assistance reached those who chose to stay.

Despite this unusual cooperation, both sides stress the truce is limited, and fighting continues beyond the ceasefire zone.
