Severe weather has torn through the midwest, destroying homes, disrupting flights, and knocking out power for thousands across the region.

Local reports say at least two confirmed tornadoes hit communities in Illinois, with heavy storms also causing damage in northwestern Indiana.

Eyewitness video shows a large tornado by the side of a road and another approaching Steator, Illinois.

More footage shows the scale of the destruction in the city after the storm had passed, with roofs torn off houses and trees on the ground.
