Iran‘s national football team has unexpectedly based itself in Tijuana, Mexico, due to visa complications ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The unusual stay has sparked enthusiasm among locals, who have warmly embraced the team and dubbed the city “Tijuairan.” 

While tight security limits access, residents and members of the Iranian diaspora are celebrating the rare moment, focusing on football despite the geopolitical tensions surrounding the team.
