France‘s education minister has announced the partial or total closure of up to 500 schools across the country on Monday. This is in response to more than a week of protests by students nationwide demanding reforms in education. The protests have seen clashes between police and students and thousands have been detained.

At least 24 schools have been ‘burned or ransacked’ according to officials. What is fueling the violence and is there a way out of the crisis? Biresh Banerjee speaks to DW correspondent Lisa Louis and political scientist Emiliano Grossman.
