Aquapurna, a German indoor farm near Hanover, uses a closed-loop aquaculture system to produce shrimp entirely in-house.
By recycling 1.2 million liters of saltwater, using industrial waste heat and developing its own salt blend, the company aims to deliver sustainable, locally produced shrimp while reducing environmental impact and operating costs.
Since Europe consumes around 500,000 tons of shrimp annually, the company sees an opportunity to serve the growing demand for sustainable seafood rather than replace imports from Asia.
