Nigeria wants 60% of its vehicles to be electric by 2050, but the road to that target is far from straightforward. The existing threats to that progress include high costs, scarce chargers, and unreliable electricity.

Nigeria‘s market for electric vehicles is growing — but only very gradually. There are roughly 20,000 EVs in the country, just 0.1% of the nation’s total of 15 million vehicles.

The government now has an ambitious target of making more than half of the country’s vehicles electric by 2050, but just how feasible is that amid stumbling blocks like limited EV infrastructure and poor electricity supply?
