Canada’s PM welcomes prospect of EU associate membership

Many Canadians appear supportive of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s stance. But US President Donald Trump has warned of consequences should he consider closer ties between Canada and the EU “a hostile act.”

During his trip to Europe, Mark Carney said Canadians were united in resisting outside pressure over their national identity and foreign policy, declaring: “Nobody is going to tell us what language we speak; no one is going to dictate our culture or with whom we can strike agreements internationally.”
