Colombia races against time after worst quake in a decade

More than 200 people have died in Colombia’s strongest earthquake in a decade, with the toll expected to climb. President De La Espriella says he has personally taken charge of the emergency response.

Search and rescue efforts continued on Tuesday after a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, trapping people beneath collapsed buildings and causing widespread damage.

The disaster is becoming the first major test for President Abelardo de la Espriella, who took office just days ago.
