Colombian voters face a stark choice between pursuing negotiations with armed groups and a tougher military-led security strategy.

Far-right millionaire lawyer Abelardo de la Espriella won the first round in Colombia‘s presidential election on Sunday, and will be facing left-wing candidate Ivan Cepeda in a runoff on June 21.

DW spoke with correspondent Felipe Abondano and Elizabeth Dickinson, deputy director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the International Crisis Group, for insights into the candidates, their competing visions — and what the outcome could mean for Colombia’s future.
