It’s one of astronomy’s most striking events and this week, millions of people will have a chance to witness it ― at least in Greenland, Iceland, Portugal and Spain.
On Wednesday, the moon will pass directly between the Earth and the sun, blocking its light. This results in the moon casting a shadow on the Earth, leading to a brief period of daytime darkness. For the people in Spain, the solar eclipse will peak between 20.26 and 20.33 local time, shortly before sunset. Cities that will experience a total eclipse include Valencia, Zaragoza and Bilbao. People in the capital, Madrid, will still be able to witness a 99.9% partial eclipse.
