Stocks moved lower on Tuesday as uncertainty over an Iran deal and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz continued to weigh on the market. U.S. oil prices rose above $83 per barrel during the session, rallying from an earlier dip near $81. The small decline in the S & P 500 puts the index on track for its second straight down day following a record close last Friday. Eli Lilly’s oral GLP-1 medication hit another milestone after the U.K. approved it. The green light there for Foundayo marks the drug’s first regulatory approval in Europe. The news comes two months after Novo Nordisk ‘s oral Wegovy was approved in the U.K. Foundayo is still playing catch-up to oral Wegovy, which kept the same name as the injectable version because it’s the same active ingredient, semaglutide. The active ingredient in Foundayo is orforglipron, which is a single-acting GLP-1, just like Wegovy. Dual-acting tirzepatide is what’s in Zepbound shot. Different drugs, different name. That catch-up to Wegovy was seen in Lilly’s latest earnings report. While results were strong, Foundayo missed as the company works to build up consumer awareness. Revenue in the quarter was $98 million versus analyst estimates of $103 million. Foundayo revenue is expected to reach $840 million in 2026, jump to over $3 billion next year, then more than double to $6.3 billion in 2028, according to FactSet. We still think Foundayo can win over time, but it’s taking a little longer than thought. Oral Wegovy may provide slightly more weight loss, but Foundayo has an edge because it can be taken any time of day without food or water restrictions. Wegovy has strict administration rules. AI buildout companies highlight earnings over the next 24 hours. After the bell, it’s server maker Super Micro , neo-cloud Coreweave , and Lumentum , which makes lasers and fiber optics. Nebius , a Coreweave peer, is out Wednesday morning. Brinker International , the restaurant group behind Chili’s and Maggiano’s, also reports earnings before Wednesday’s open. Wednesday is an important day for economic data , with the July consumer price index out before the bell. Following last Friday’s weak jobs report , the market is nervous that a hot inflation report could force the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates even as the labor market softens. According to FactSet, economists expect a year-over-year headline CPI gain of 3.4%. Core CPI, excluding volatile food and energy prices, is seen up 2.5%.
