SINGAPORE: Former Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim is in discussions to return to academia with the National University of Singapore (NUS).
In response to CNA’s queries, NUS said on Monday (Aug 24) that the university and Associate Professor Faishal are discussing the arrangements for his return to academia.
Assoc Prof Faishal, who was also the Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs, resigned from politics in July after his interactions with a woman “fell short” of the standards required of a political office holder and Member of Parliament, said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong then.
He was previously with NUS in 2010 as an associate professor of real estate at the former NUS School of Design and Environment, which merged with the Faculty of Engineering to form the current College of Design and Engineering in 2022.
Assoc Prof Faishal entered politics in April 2006 as part of a six-member PAP team that won Marine Parade GRC.
He was made senior minister of state for home affairs and acting minister-in-charge of Muslim affairs in May 2025.
