US President Donald Trump has claimed the Kennedy Center in Washington DC has been losing “tens of millions of dollars, even hundreds of millions of dollars” for years.

Trump, who wants his name on the famous performing arts venue, was photographed onboard Air Force One looking at a poster with a headline that appeared to tout the demolition of the site.

Federal audit records for 2024 show that, despite having “an operating deficit”, it had a surplus of millions of dollars – as Aisha Sembhi explains.
