A 1,500-page report by Germany‘s Society for Civil Rights (GFF) argues the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is anti-constitutional and could be banned. It cites speeches, statements and social media posts as evidence. Germany’s domestic intelligence agency had previously designated several regional chapters of the AfD as far-right extremist.
While some politicians support a court review, a ban would require government action and take years. Experts warn a failed attempt could strengthen the AfD, which is gaining support in polls.
